BEST Fish Head Noodles @ Kaki Bola XO Fish Head Noodles, Taman Paramount

I also happen to be a big fan of eating fish (seems like the question should be: what am I not a fan of)
And the BEST Fish Head Noodles I've ever head is at

Kaki Bola XO Fish Head Noodles, Taman Paramount.

Since my first time eating at this place, I've never stopped craving for it and by this I mean I have this constant urge/desire/pms-pregnant-woman-like-craving/non-stop-on-my-mind feeling to eat it at this place ALL THE TIME.
And I can assure you, I'm not the only one ;)

So what is it that makes this Fish Head Noodles so absolutely crave-alicious?

The Noodles
Rated: 10/10

The Fried Fish, The Soup and The Chilli are all secondary but most importantly, complimentary to the awesome noodles.
(It may not be prominent but it is significant)
And because everything goes so well together,
this dish is rated 10/10.

If your going there for your first time, here's some helpful tips to help you with your order:

1. Fried fish or fresh?
(Recommendation: fried)

2. Skinny noodles or fat?
(Recommendation: fat noodles*ahem, no connotations or metaphor of any sort is implied here*)

3. Would you like the soup with milk or without?
(Recommendation: With milk)

4. Choose whether you want extra XO or not
(I recommend a yes :D)

If all recommendations are followed, your fish head noodle will look like this.

Crispy, Succulent Char Siu @ Meng Kee Char Siu, Glenmarie

I've had a lot of char siu (barbecued roast pork) in my life and this is by far, the best ever!

To start off, this little 'restaurant' (by that I mean your typical chinese kopitiam with RM16 Tiger beer bottles and all the iced chinese tea you can get) is located in Glenmarie.

For directions, click HERE for the link to Google Maps.

Meng Kee also serves steam/roasted chicken, siew yok (roast pork belly - this usually has a crispy layer on top), siew cheong (roasted chinese sausage - made out of pig innards), vegetables (like taugeh, kailan, etc).

There were 2 of us and this is what we had...

Steam Chicken

Steam chicken was good, no complaints but not enough for me to be craving it.
(yes, I know, I'm picky & fussy)
Rated: 6.5/10

Siew Cheong

So unhealthy but what the heck, you only live once!
It doesn't have the 'smell' of innards that makes it difficult to eat. Instead, its sweet & salty with no disgusting-hard-lard-bits when chewing them. Extra brownie points there!
Rated 7.5/10

Taugeh

Okay, I love vegetables (& meat of course) and you can't go wrong with taugeh anyway.
But I gotta say, kudos to Meng Kee for using fresh and young taugeh i.e. the taugeh doesn't have "tails" that make it look unpresentable and unappetizing.
Rated: 7.5/10

And the best of all:
the CHAR SIU

Roasted to perfection
It even has the the slightly burnt but not over-burnt bits that will keep you popping it into your mouth like popcorn at the movies! (if only we could...)

Mmmmm, ooooooh...

No char siu is complete without the thin layer of fat :) mmm...

I.have.no.words.to.describe.the.char.siu.
The best I can do is: its sweet, crispy, delicious, tender.
And that's an understatement.
Rated: 9.5/10
(the 0.5 is for health reasons only)

I would go to Meng Kee EVERYDAY if my blood vessels and heart wouldn't passively complain with sever consequences ;)

Buns, Very Hot Buns @ TedBoy Bakery, Jln Telawi 4 Bangsar

After hearing about the buzz of a little bakery neatly tucked away in Bangsar, a bread and butter lover such as I just had to check it out.

TedBoy Bakery is located on Jalan Telawi 4, same row as 7-11, the row of shops opposite the police station :)

Mmmmm, the smell of freshly baked bread.

They have a small menu but decent enough to give you some variety and the best part is that their prices are reasonable! Yay to reasonable prices for good food!
*Applause*
The atmosphere of the place is alright. Limited tables and chairs with a narrow walk way all around the cafe. I think I must have bumped into several people that day just from ordering and paying for the meal.

But, the highlight of the place is that it has several iPads on its wall for customers who decide to sit at the bar!

Oh what a lovely entertaining meal :)

The FOOD.

Beef pepperoni ciabatta

The beef pepperoni was good stuff - not the cheap meat you get from some random deli and the breaaaaaaad. Ooooh. :) The only thing that held it back is that the caramalized onions were too sweet and over-powered the taste of the beef pepperoni and the ciabatta. Not the best complimentary sauce for the sandwich.
Overall rating: 6.5/10

Chicken chilli tomato sandwich
Amazing! Chicken was tender with slightly tangy sauce (but not sour) and enough chilli to give it a little kick (but not the kind that will set your mouth on fire). And the bread was perfect - so buttery and soft.
Overall rating: 7.5/10

So there you are, awesome bread with awesome entertainment.

Food Foundry @ Section 17

Alrighty, so this post (and this blog) is way overdue - like many other things in my life. Ahem.
BUT I have finally gotten round to posting this food review (and hopefully metaphorically or supernaturally getting the other things in life done too).

Food Foundry
is a neat little cafe hidden in a residential area in Section 17 amongst the flurry of convenient stores, dry cleaners, photocopying shops, etc. Its been around for quite a number of years now, perhaps 10 years or so but has recently regained its popularity (maybe due to the recent facelift, social media and just one of the many to-die for desserts).

I love their white, minimalist yet cozy feel to the cafe.
A little on the warm side tho cause its not an enclosed air-conditioned area.

Well, the real reason we checked out the place was because we heard about their to-die for desserts. But our curious minds (and stomachs) couldn't resist the itch to find out what their main meals were like.
And so..

Chicken Kiev:
I wasn't impressed with this dish for a number of reasons - the chicken meat was dry and tasteless, there was very little cheese in it, mash potato was bland and the only saving grace was that the brown sauce was tasty enough to make everything else palatable.
Overall rating 6/10

Smoked Salmon Sandwich:
(Where's the smoked salmon?)
This sandwich was over onion-filled, which killed the taste of the smoked salmon and left my dear friend with onion breath for the rest of the day (and I am left wondering - how long does onion breath last?!). Also, the bread was slightly starchy/doughy.
Overall rating: 5/10

THEN THERE WAS DESSERT.

Vanilla Mille Crepe.
Soft. Creamy. Light. Fluffy.
The combination for the perfect dessert anytime, anywhere.
What else can I say?
Overall rating: 9/10
(Warning: NOT MADE FOR SHARING ;) )
